As part of what we do at Classical Baths we often find ourselves lifting baths onto pallets or vans, whenever we come to lift one of the Burlington slipper baths its always somewhat of a surprise to realise the extra effort needed with one of these. This extra weight in the bath is an indicator of their robust quality. The Harwood slipper bath is supplied without tap holes or overflow but includes tap hole and overflow templates for easy drilling using standard equipment on site.

Compatible Waste Kits for the Harewood Slipper Bath

These are the waste kits we recommend for the Harewood slipper bath. In almost all installations of this bath the pipework on the outside of the bath will be visible. This includes the overflow pipe, trap and outlet waste pipe as well as all the fittings associated with them. Because these parts may be seen they should be in a decorative finish, usually chrome. Waste kits like this are known as exposed waste kits. If these parts will not be seen then you would choose a concealed waste kit instead which will have plastic parts instead of chrome.

The EA368 is the de-facto standard roll top bath waste kit. This kit is intended to be used with baths that have taps mounted though tap holes on the edge of the bath and so includes a pair of pipe shrouds to cover the water feeds going from the floor to the tap.

How much does painting a bath cost?

To find out the cost for painting a particular bath find the bath in question on the site and from the "Finish" drop down box select "Farrow and Ball Painted Exterior". The price will change to show the price of the bath when painted. If you want your bath painted with a brand other than Farrow and Ball then except in exceptional cases the price will be the same.

How do I Order a Painted Bath? (ring us on 0113 2360214)

Which of your baths can be painted? (all of them)

All of our baths can be painted. So all of our acrylic baths, stone cast baths, fibre glass and gel-coat baths can all be painted. The exterior only of the bath is painted, the interior and top edge of the bath are left unpainted. Where baths have feet the feet can also be painted if required, either in the same colour as the bath or a different colour.

When we paint a traditional roll top bath we paint right up to the edge of the roll on the outside of the bath leaving the rolled top edge and the interior of the bath unpainted. When we paint a contemporary style of bath with no roll we expertly mask a line just a few mm's down from the top edge on the outside of the bath and paint to that. This creates a high contrast between your chosen paint colour and the white of the bath accentuating the paint colour with the sharp contrast that the edge to the white of the bath provides.

What's the lead time for a painted bath? (3 weeks-ish, but we can also do emergency painting)

Usually the lead time for a painted bath is between 2 and 4 weeks. In cases of great urgency (which are many) we can often be quicker than this and we will do our best to meet any deadlines you have.

What Paint Manufacturers and Colours can you use? (any)

We know our paint, and what we don't know we can find out. So the short answer is we can use all paints and any colours as long as they suitable. The most popular brands of paint we are asked to use are Farrow and Ball, Little Greene, Zoffany, Sanderson, Benjamin Moore and Paint and Paper Library - over 1500 colours to choose from between them.

We can also paint any RAL Colour including metallic finishes.

We generally use a matt eggshell finish which is knock-resistant and washable and performs well in a domestic bathroom but if you have a particular requirement not mentioned here call or email us and we will help you get what you want.

Can the bath feet be painted? (yes)

All the bath feet supplied with our baths can be painted.

Some manufacturers, such as Burlington, supply their bath feet in paintable finishes onto which we can prime and paint directly.

Other manufacturers, such as Royce Morgan, supply their bath feet in chrome only. In these cases we cannot paint directly onto the surface with wet paint (like Farrow and Ball) as the paint would just run off. So instead we powder coat them first and then paint on top of that.

Powder coating is a process which paints using a dry powder that sticks to the surface of the metal which is then baked in an oven. It is great on its own as a final finish for matt black or matt white feet but it also provides a stable surface onto which we can paint with Farrow and Ball or other suitable paints.

These differences in how we have to go about painting one kind of bath foot and another account for the different prices for painting some bath feet rather than others.

Can you give any useful advice on how to choose colours? (yes)

Don't Rely on Computer Colours: The main issue when it comes to choosing a paint colour is to get an accurate idea of how the paint will look when its on your bath. The worst way of doing this is to just use the colour as shown on a computer screen as a guide. The way in which colours are specified for computing, whilst covering a very large number of different Red-Blue-Green combinations, cannot capture the richness of the wavelengths reflected by quality paints such as Farrow and Ball. In addition different computer screens will render colours quite differently.

Use a colour swatch or colour card instead: A far better way to start is with a colour swatch or colour card from the manufacturers. We keep Farrow and Ball swatches so ring us for one if you need one, or you can order one directly from the Farrow and Ball website. Likewise for other manufacturers. Typically a swatch or colour card will show you each colour accurately reproduced on an area about 1 or 2 sq.cm. be aware that when the colour is on a larger area whatever qualities it seems to have on a small area will be more impact-full. Light colours will look lighter. Deep, dark colours will look deeper and darker.

Get Sample Pots: So the next stage if you really want to work hard making your decision is to order sample pots of paint from the manufacturers, these can be bought directly from the manufacturer at low cost. Once you have your sample pot, paint a piece of card or paper of at least A4 size (the bigger the better), then look at it in your bathroom under the various lighting conditions that you will have in there. This will give you a really accurate understanding of what kind of experience your chosen colour will give you.

How does a painted bath stand up to normal use? (very well)

We generally paint using a matt eggshell finish. This is the same kind of finish you might use on skirting boards, window boards or interior doors so it is washable, knock-resistant and relatively hard-wearing. It will last in the same way and withstand similar usage to the same paint on your doors and skirting boards. So with care you can expect it to last 10 years or more.

What if the paint gets marked, scratched or scuffed, can it be fixed? (yes)

If you get dirty marks on the surface of the paint use a soft damp cloth - a damp micro-fibre cloth is by far the best kind to use - be as gentle as you can but you can be quite robust with it if you need to be and this will remove most marks.

If your bath gets scratched or scuffed ring us for advice on 0113 2360214. Sometimes its possible to fix a scuff by careful use of a solvent such as t-cut, at other times the best way is to use a small atomiser to respray the affected area. If you need this we can send you a suitable atomiser pre-loaded with paint and tell you exactly how to do it. Paint is generally easy to fix.

How do you paint them? (with great care and expertise)

First the surface of the bath is prepared.

This means rubbing the bath down to provide a key for the primer, during this phase tiny faults that can't be seen on a gloss white surface but that can be seen when the surface is painted with a matt finish are filled and corrected.

Next all dust is removed from the surface of the bath using a tack-rag which is a sticky cloth designed for exactly this purpose. This ensures that the primer will affix securely to the bath for a long lasting result.

The bath is then expertly sprayed with two coats of primer. After each coat the surface is then matted down - that is, it is rubbed down all over with fine abrasive paper by hand to provide a fine and even surface.

The bath is then sprayed with two top coats, matted down again after each coat and then sprayed with a third and final topcoat to give an unsurpassed finish.

How Much Does UK Delivery Cost?

For all bath orders our standard UK delivery is free of charge. This covers most UK mainland addresses. With our standard deliveries you can choose your day of delivery to be any week day and delivery will usually be between 9am and 5pm.

In addition to our standard deliveries we can also do Saturday morning deliveries, AM deliveries, before 10am deliveries. afternoon deliveries and timed deliveries. Each of these options will cost a little more usually between £20 (for a morning delivery) and £60 (for a Saturday delivery). We Arrange a Delivery Schedule: We will contact you within 1 working day with a delivery schedule. For smaller orders (e.g. taps and waste kits) we will also email you a tracking link the day before delivery and for larger orders (baths, basins, WCs) we will ring you the day before delivery with an approximate delivery time.

We Get More Info if required: If your order includes a painted bath, painted basin or item of painted furniture we will contact you within 1 working day to confirm your chosen colour(s). We will not charge your card until we have confirmed your chosen paint colour.

We Expertly Check your Order: Our expert staff will check all the items in your order for compatibility and completeness. If we believe you may have ordered incompatible products, missed vital items out or included items that you may not need we will contact you to ensure we get your order right.

We Charge Your Card: When you place an order with us, your payment will, at first, be authorised but not captured and you will be sent an automated email confirmation of your order. This means that on your statement the money will not have been taken from your account but will not be included in your 'Available to Spend' total. Only when all the details of your order are confirmed will we actually charge your card so that the payment leaves your account. Then we will email you a VAT invoice/receipt.

How long will it take from placing my order to delivery?

The usual delivery time is about 3 to 5 working days for smaller items (e.g. taps, showers) and approximately 5 to 10 working days or less for larger orders (e.g. WCs, baths) and 10 to 20 working days for painted baths. For larger items once we know your postal area we can give you a choice of specific delivery days. If its urgent we can often deliver much more quickly, including with next day or 48 hour deliveries.

How long will my order take if I have items that are being customised for me, e.g. a painted bath?

If your order includes a painted bath this will usually take between 10 and 20 working days from ordering to delivery depending upon how busy we are. Please ring or email to ask for the latest lead times.

What size van is the delivery on (we live down a narrow lane)?

Our usual carriers deliver on a luton vans or large transit vans so they will get down most of the roads or lanes that a large car can get down.

Will we be given a time when the delivery will take place?

Our standard deliveries are between 9am and 5pm, however we are often able to provide you with an approximate delivery time on the day of delivery, we can also have the carriers ring you on the day when they are a short distance from you.
